Steady insuline- Detox

Spring has finally arrived here in the Netherlands! And when would it be a better time to do a detox than now ,eh? See it as a huge spring-clean, for your body!

I’ve tried tons of different detox methodes and I’ve always been a bit sceptical about it. Doesn’t your body clean it’s self just by eating pure food? I still believe in this yes, but I do think it’s also good to help to clean and flush your body, as a reset. I often do these ‘resets’ when I’m starting a new chapter in my life or when the seasons change.

The most common detox method is the juicing-detox. I personally also prefer this way because I feel that it really cleanses my whole body and flushes out my organs. I feel so fresh and ‘clean’ after such a detox. The only down-side with us women with PCOS and doing a detox with by the juice-method, is that we’ll notice huge peaks in our sugar-level which is NOT so good for our hormones. Another down-side for us is once you eat such few calories your body will be making an overload on Cortison (the stress hormone). Also this is not good for our hormonal imbalance… This is why I decided to make a way for us ladies with PCOS to detox with juices without disturbing our hormones!

This 1 day juice detox is made with fruit but also healthy fats and veggies to keep the sugars in a lower level. This way you’ll be able to keep your insuline more stable! Besides that you’ll also notice that this detox contains a bit more calories, to prevent the stress hormone of over-activating. This way it’s also much less of a shock for your body, still with the same results!

I often do a 3-day cleanse, sometimes 5 days. Depending on how I feel! You can also make a habit out of it by having a 1-day cleanse every week, every Sunday for example. To end your old week and start the new one, fresh, energetic and with a healthy body!

One of the most important things to remember to do during a detox, 3 days, 5 days or even 1 day: is to drink the whole day! I always make myself a big pot of herbal tea and keep refilling so that I’m drinking constantly throughout the day. Besides for it helping flushing out your system you’ll also notice it still’s your appetite.

The only thing you’ll need is a blender and positivity. Enough talk. Let’s do this!

Breakfast

Start your day with the purple smoothie!

  • 80 g blueberries (frozen or fresh)
  • 1/3 banana
  • 1 small cooked beetroot
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 15 ml lemon juice
  • 10 g walnuts
  • 200 ml nutmilk

Lunch

Get your greens in!

  • 2 hands of spinach
  • good amount of fresh mint (depending on taste)
  • 1/2 mango
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 15 g linseed
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 200 ml water (add more for thinner texture)
  • 1/2 lime juice

Snack

The orange immune booster

  • 1 orange
  • 10 g fresh ginger
  • 7 g fresh turmeric
  • 100 ml water
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper

Dinner

Either warm or cold, delicious!

  • 2 large or 3 medium sized tomatoes
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 handful of fresh parsley
  • ½ tsp salt
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
